What is Incontinence?

Incontinence affects lots of women and means you don’t have full control over your bladder. There are two main types of incontinence - stress and urgency.

  • Stress incontinence - leaking urine when you, for example, cough, run, or sneeze

  • Urgency incontinence - when you get a sudden, strong urge to empty your bladder followed by an involuntary loss of urine

But…incontinence isn’t all about the bladder

Common causes:

  • Suboptimal pressure management throughout the body - for example you have too much pressure from the thorax, abdomen or pelvis

  • Your sphincter and pelvic floor aren’t functioning optimally, perhaps because of scar tissue on your pelvic floor or reduced strength

  • Your breathing mechanics aren’t working so well and are increasing pressure on your pelvis or pelvic floor

How do we treat it?

At Fixology we take a whole body approach to find the root cause of your incontinence and work out the best way to treat it. Every body is different, but this will likely consist of:

  • Physio assessment and manual therapy treatment to optimise full body alignment, movement and pressure management

  • Breathing, pelvic floor, mobility and strengthening exercises
